Our Heritage

David Bird was selling carpets when he was 10 years old and never wanted to do anything else, officially joining the business when he left school at 15. His parents, Jeff and Marina set the standards of excellence and as family members joined them the business grew and prospered.

Jeff and Marina’s guiding principles of service and quality have been honoured by David and Helen and now passed on to their son Michael. Each generation has brought their own special talents to the business and today it is still very much a family affair with loyal, long-serving staff. The beliefs of the whole team are the same today as they have always been. Priority is placed on good old-fashioned service and there is a deep sense of pride in the quality and value offered to customers from across Lancashire, Cumbria and beyond.

Michael Bird: “We’ve seen massive changes in the furniture market place and it’s intriguing to ask oneself the question: what’s coming next? It’s been a great journey so far, started by my Grandfather and one that I feel privileged to still be taking. I have enormous pride that we have served many generations of customers and that we are investing in our future so that my son Harrison can carry on the Bird family tradition ”

David Bird: “I’ve lived and breathed the Bird ethos my whole life. I am enormously proud of my Mum and Dad and have such respect for their hard work in creating and building this company. I am proud of our reputation and that every member of our team shares the same desire to put customers’ needs at the heart of the way we operate. The fact that our furniture business has survived when we’ve seen lots of firms come and go demonstrates, I believe, the fact that we have a sound business ethos that has stood the test of time. You’ll like our friendly relaxed atmosphere and we’ll be happy to spend as much time with you as you need in order to find that perfect sofa, bed, floor or other item of furniture. Anything you need, just ask – you are what we’re here for and nothing makes us happier than serving your needs.”
