When Mother Teresa received the Nobel Prize, she was asked, “What can we do to promote world peace?” She answered “Go home and love your family.”

Babies are lovely to hug
Kids, particularly small ones, are just so cute to hug.

It makes kids smarter
Research shows that children whose parents demonstrate love to them verses children whose parents don’t, actually have bigger brains Hugging may not raise their IQ, but it’ll help them get the most out of it. And that will be good for them, their future family, and the spheres in which they will move as adults.

It releases good chemicals
Physical contact releases a certain chemical in the brain that promotes happiness and lower stress hormones. Cuddling and hugging can literally put you in a better mood. If you’ve had a tough day, or if your kids are pushing the envelope and you to your limit, a good way to stop and reset the home atmosphere is to cuddle.

It communicates love
It is one way – out of many – that confirms your love for them.

It establishes a connection
A good way to reconnect with the kids is through a big hug. It says, “I’ll slow down and just be with you.”

At the end of a long day, a good ‘schnuggle’ before bedtime says, “I am here for you.”

Kids need it
Everyone, but particularly younger children, need to be cuddled. They need physical touch. They need comfort. They need a safe place close to their real life heroes when they feel scared or nervous.

Have a look here for the right bed for your family cuddles any time of the day or night!

Sleep used to be for wimps – now, it’s become the ultimate status symbol. As evidence grows that a good night’s rest is essential for health, happiness and success, we’ve become a nation obsessed with the quantity and quality of our slumber.

Sales of mattresses and beds rose by 4.5 per cent last year, according to the International Sleep Products Association. We’re investing more time – and money – than ever on luxurious bedding and calming bedroom furniture and lighting, in a bid for optimal comfort.

The tech industry has woken up to the sleep boom, too, with hundreds of apps and wearable monitors to monitor our sleep cycles now available. The latest incarnations are smart pillows, such as the Zeeq, launched on Kickstarter this summer, which tracks your movements during the night, vibrates to nudge you if you’re snoring, and has speakers inside so you can fall asleep to your favourite, relaxing music. Increasing numbers of companies are installing ‘nap pods’ to allow employees to grab a snooze when their creativity is ebbing.

The trend has no doubt been helped by leading business figures such as Arianna Huffington championing the need for more, better sleep – in her recent book, The Sleep Revolution, she described how transforming her habits to ensure she got eight hours a night made her “a better leader”.

In today’s wellness-obsessed culture, cavalier, macho attitudes to sleep seem out-of-date: Donald Trump’s erratic behaviour has been linked by some to the fact he reportedly gets by on four hours a night.

We sell hundreds of mattresses every year and there’s nothing better than coming into a shop and talking to one of our very experienced staff who will offer impartial advice advice across all our ranges. Our staff are specially trained to help people choose what’s best for them. Being able to get everything for a bedroom under one roof is our strength.”

A bed is an investment and determines your quality of sleep, so take the time to lie on a number of options before committing to that final purchase.

When testing out a bed or mattress, make sure you take your time. Lie for a few minutes on each surface, moving through various positions and finding your natural sleeping pose.

A good bed doesn’t have to cost the earth, but remember how important a good night’s sleep is for your health and wellbeing. Decide which features are most important to you and keep those in mind when testing out options, so you get the most for your money.

Right now we have some real bargains on mattresses and beds in our Birds Big Summer Sale…we’d recommend you pop in and find the perfect one for you before they’re all gone.

Looking for a space-saving bed with storage to put in a smaller bedroom?

If the idea of a pull-down bed conjures up images of cramped bedsits, or if a bed with drawers makes you think of tired student divans, it’s time to rethink your preconceptions. Today’s clever bed designs manage to combine style and practicality with aplomb. There are now many multi-functional designs and canny under-bed storage solutions to help you make the most of your space.

Your bed is likely to be the most prominent piece of furniture in your bedroom, so choose a bed type that fits with the style and size of the room.

Make sure to measure your space then decide how large or small a bed you’d like – or can fit – in your bedroom.

Measure your bedroom if you’re moving into a new home, allowing ample space at either side of where the bed will fit to accommodate bedside tables or other furniture.

We carry a great range of space saving beds from Silent Night, Rest Assured, Burgess Beds and Sealy. You can choose from four options; two drawers, four drawers, four drawer continental (2 large and 2 half size drawers) and ottoman beds.

We are proud to sell Burgess Beds and Mattresses another British family business that shares our ethos of quality.

They have been hand making bespoke luxury beds in England for over eighty years and are very much a family run business making hand crafted, quality beds for the home, hotels, shipping lines and many more institutions.

Cumbrian bed company teams up with Age UK and Eden Flood Volunteers to help those affected by floods in the region

Cumbrian bed manufacturer, Sealy UK is spearheading a campaign to support residents affected by the devastation of the region’s recent flooding – teaming up with local organisations, Age UK and Eden Flood Volunteers.

Following its involvement with the immediate relief efforts when flooding hit the region back in December 2015 providing much-needed supplies, Sealy is now helping residents as they prepare to return to their homes.

The company has made a donation of bed frames and mattresses, worth up to £40,000*, to the two organisations, which will each allocate the items to residents in the community who desperately need them. Sealy is also urging other local businesses and furniture manufacturers to follow suit and pledge their support to those affected in the region.

Neil Robinson, Sealy’s Sales and Marketing Director, said: “We’re a Cumbrian company, based in Aspatria and the flooding appeal is very close to our hearts. Many Sealy colleagues and their friends and family members have been directly affected by the terrible weather conditions we experienced not only in December last year, but on several subsequent occasions, the results of which have been absolutely devastating each time.

“We’ve supported the efforts in any way we can, with a donation to the community foundation, providing supplies and catering for rescue teams and now, teaming up with Age UK and Eden Flood Volunteers, to help residents return to homes. These organisations help those in need in the community every single day and we’re incredibly pleased to be able to support them with their efforts.

“We are aware how many others have been playing their part when it comes to this important cause, and we would absolutely love to see businesses in our community continuing the great work to help those affected to get their houses back in order.”

Joan Bailey, Information and Advice Supervisor at Age UK Carlisle, said: “During our work with the community we’ve experienced first-hand some of the damage caused by December’s floods. It is incredibly disruptive, especially to elderly residents who may spend a lot of time in their homes and rely on the support of others to get these homes repaired.

“The flooding didn’t only impact on the ground floor of the houses affected, but the resulting damp has damaged rooms and furniture on the higher levels too; the mattresses will therefore be absolutely vital. We’d like to thank Sealy for its kind donation from us here at Age UK and the community members these items will go to.”

Alan Bennett at Eden Flood Volunteers, said: “We are extremely grateful for Sealy’s generous offer of support during what has been a very difficult time for the community. It’s fantastic to see a local organisation really caring about the residents in the region and the mattresses will go a long way to helping people return to their homes.”

*Total donation value from Sealy UK will be a maximum of £40,000 (RRP), though may be less, depending on the value of specific mattresses and bases selected by recipients.
